The Timmelsjoch-Alpine-road which runs via Hochgurgl until the border of South Tyrol at an altitude of 2,509 m, connects the Ötztal with the Passeiertal. The Alpine-road offers a unique view and landscape and is therefore a trip which is worth making it.

Due to the shape and size of the AQUA DOME it perfectly fits into the mountainous scenery of the Ötztal. The architect also considered the nature by using wooden elements, stones and a lot of light.

This memorial reminds of the Swiss professor Auguste Piccard who landed with his stratospheric balloon on the Gurgler Ferner (Gurgler glacier). This event, which took place in 1931, made Gurgl famous all over the world.

It is a 45-minute-walk to the centre of Lehn where you can visit our museum of local history. The biggest museum of the Ötztal, which is located in a 30-year-old farm, shows how our local people lived centuries ago.

The Hohle Stein, which is situated in Vent (2,050 m), is a station of hunters and herdsmen of the stone age, archaeological excavations at Vent show that our region was one of the most important hunting grounds for hunters of the Middle Stone Age 8000 years before Christ.

Living, housing, and working in a small community at the time of Ötzi. The Ötzi-Dorf, which is a 9,000 square metre big archaeological open-air museum, is situated below the Stuibenfall and shows its visitors how people in the New Stone Age like Ötzi possibly lived.

With the discovery of the man in the ice on the 19th September 1991 close to the Similaun glacier in the Alps, the alpine archaeology got a big boost.
By coincidence, the German couple Erika and Helmut Simen who were hiking through the Tisenjoch at an altitude of 3,200 metres, discovered a 5,300-year-old mummy of a man today known as Ötzi.

The Forchet is an extended area with a lot of trees which has not been cultivated by humans yet. It is a track that is marked, easy to walk on, and which offers a lot of places to take a rest in order to observe our nature consciously.

STUIBENFALL
This is the biggest and most beautiful waterfall in Tyrol. It is about 150m high and if the sun shines it provides a unique spectacle of colours. At our tourist office you get further information about the Stuibenfall for free.

It is a natural lake which is the largest of the valley and the warmest in Tyrol. People often call it "The mirror of the mountains" because it produces wonderful pictures of the large trees around it.

Despite a long period of rebuilding after the Second World War and the wish to live a modern way of life, Öetz still offers a lot of places and buildings which are really old and traditional.
Especially the picturesque centre of the village reflects the way of living of former times.

Farst is probably the steepest and most adventurous settlement in the valley. If you look at them from the valley you think that the farms have to be fixed somehow in order not to fall down. From there (1,500m) you can enjoy a great panoramic view.
